FORD 2006 CHANGES & FEATURES

Mark Maser, a Ford Master Trainer — and one of ATA’s favorite Instructors — covered Ford’s innovations for 2006.

We learned how nice the new Ford Hybrid is and some very important safety points when working on them.

  1. When working on a Ford Hybrid always take the key out of the ignition.   This is the most important thing to never forget.   You can get hurt or killed if you forget this when you have it on a lift or are working on the car.

  2. Also always use the right fluid in the transmission on a Ford.  One mistake and its all over.

We learned about the new features, including the eCVT Transmission, new Engines, and Hybrids—present & future.

eCVT Transmission: The electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission (eCVT) blends the low-end torque of the electric motor and the gasoline engine's increased torque at high rpms for seamless acceleration from a full stop to cruising speed.

Regenerative Braking: A regenerative braking function reclaims energy that would otherwise be lost as heat, storing it in the 330-volt, air-cooled battery pack for the next acceleration, passing maneuver, or hill climb. When the driver comes to rest at a traffic light, the engine is automatically switched off to save fuel. When the accelerator is applied, the electric motor provides low-end torque, revving up the acceleration power.

New Triton V-8 Engine: The new 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine that powers Ford's F-150 is designed with three valves per cylinder, variable-cam timing, and a host of other features that provide increased power along with improved refinement and fuel efficiency.
